Restoration and Recovery - 9

This is part 9 of a several part devotion dedicated to the book of Nehemiah chapter 3.

Nehemiah 3:15

The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Kol-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam, by the King's Garden, as far as the steps going down from The City of David.
Do you ever skip over chapters in the Bible like this? Go read it, Nehemiah 3, it just lists people's names and what they worked on and in what order they did. I almost skipped it, I almost just zipped right through it. I was riding in the car after doing a half good job of reading the chapter when I heard, "the gates, study the gates," in my Spirit. So I went back and I studied the gates. They mean something alright. It's a blue print laid out for us. If you need restoration in your life (who doesn't?!?!?!) or if you are needing to go through recovery (gaining back something that was lost, returning to a normal healthy place!!!!!!), here is your plan.

In part 8 we talked about the repairing of The Dung Gate. The eighth step of restoration / recovery is repairing and using The Dung Gate. This is the step in the process that you come to after God has revealed to you the trash in your soul that He wants you to clean up. This can be a really hard step. When anyone is revealed the Law and they understand the revealing, it can cause mourning. Mourning for their sinful nature. The important thing is shovel all the mess out. Let this be a strengthening point to honor God and pursue Him.

The next gate that is talked about is The Fountain Gate. This is a good gate. This is a gate / area where lots of meaningful things in the Bible happen. A man was healed here that had been blind from birth. This is where cleansing takes place. This is where spiritual healing takes place. This is where the infilling of the Holy Spirit is brought to light!

Remember how long it was from The Old Gate to The Valley Gate? The whole length of The Broad Wall. And, remember how long it was from The Valley Gate to the Dung Gate? It was over 1,600 feet. This gate is speculated to be very close to the Dung Gate. The scriptures don't mention any of the wall being repaired in between these two gates. I think it is because it represents the Holy Spirit. The ever present Holy Spirit. It doesn't need repair. It doesn't need rebuilt. He is just there. Its up to us to use Him. Its up to us to make sure this gate is operating in our lives properly. He is a protection to us. I love how the scriptures about this gate mention a roof. I have this image of someone on the path of restoration and finally making that long walk from The Valley Gate to The Dung gate and throwing out all their soul trash and then just literally leaping through The Fountain Gate. Jumping in the waters there and staying under the roof for protection. For renewal from the hardness of the last two gates. Living waters! Cleansing!

If you have been in filled with The Holy Spirit let this gate be a renewal of that. Remind The Holy Spirit that you need Him in your life. You need His protection. You need His cleansing. You need His comfort. You need His guidance.

If you have never received the second baptism of the Holy Spirit let tonight be the night! When anyone is saved they receive the Holy Spirit. It is what wakes up their spirit inside. But, the infilling of the Holy Spirit it is a second event! It is nothing to be scared of and you don't even really have to understand. Just believe and receive! That is all that is required!

Thanks so much for reading!
I would love to connect with you on a personal level!

This is a devotion that will be written in several parts as we discover the different gates and parts of the wall and what that means for us in the process of restoration and recovery. When a new devotion is written I will link here:

I have written several other devotions from the book of Nehemiah  that occur before or after chapter 3. They are linked here:
