You've Got A Friend

Prov. 17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.

I have been thinking a lot over the last few days about the importance of friendship. I have been blessed in my life to have many amazing friends. This devotion would be unending if I tried to list them all.

There is a group of four of us that have been friends since junior high. I have one dear friend that has been my friend since we were 4 years old. Trust me, that's been a LONG time!!!! Over the years we have been there for each other through good times and bad. No matter how much time goes by or how many miles there are between us, when we get together it's always like old times.

The Word of God is full of stories of friendship. Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 1:16-17), David and Jonathan (1Sam. 18:1-3) and Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 2:2).

The Word tells us that we should choose or friends wisely.

Pro. 13:20 He who walks with wise  men  will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Pro. 12:26 The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Pro. 14:7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, When you do not perceive  in    him  the lips of knowledge.

1 Cor. 15:33 Do not be deceived:  “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

The Word also instructs us on how to treat our friends.

Luke 6:31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

Rom 12:10 Be  kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,  in honor giving preference to one another;

But who is our greatest friend?? Who is our best friend??

Our earthly friends are very important to us. We should remember to be thankful for them everyday. The truth is our Heavenly Father should be our "best" friend. The Word of God reminds us that he is our greatest friend.  If we will draw close to Him He will draw close to us.(James 4:8) He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Heb. 13:5)

This week I am ending my devo a little different. I would like to ask that each of you reading this say a special prayer for this dear "oldest" friend of mine. God knows what this need is.

I would love to hear from you.
