Let The Spirit Be Your Guide

Romans 8:12-15 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,  you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.  For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature,  you will live.  For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children  of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.  Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

When I was a high school senior I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Europe. With several members of my family and many other high school students, I toured England, Germany, Switzerland, Amsterdam and France. While on this trip we were led around each country by our tour guide. Our guide knew all the places we needed to go and just the directions we needed to follow to get there. As long as we listened to and followed her directions we would end up right where we needed to be when we needed to be there. We saw every amazing and interesting thing there was to see.

Now, just think about what would have happened if a bunch of teenagers had decided to go their own way without regard to the instructions of our guide. I can imagine that we would have gone down many wrong roads and missed out on so much of what there was to see and do. But, isn't this what we do with The Holy Spirit sometimes? Choosing not to listen to His promptings and instructions and instead following our own path. Just imagine how much better our lives would be if we did just what these verses from Romans 8 tell us. If we, through the power of the Spirit, will put to death our sinful nature WE WILL LIVE!!!

This devotion was written from the heart of Beth Reed. I pray that each of us will learn to be led by The Spirit so that we can live the life that Jesus died for us to have!!

I would love to hear from you. email -, FaceBook - Beth Reed, Instagram and Twitter - Beffie221
