1 Peter 1:8
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
Joy Unspeakable! I remember when I was a young child, seeing my Great Aunt Sylvia and thinking that she was one of the most joyful and pleasant people I had ever known. I often thought that she must have such an easy life to be so happy all the time. It was also common knowledge (mainly because she talked about it all the time) that she had an unshakeable devotion to God. It was not until many years later that I understood her immense joy and it's relation to her faith.
I lived with my Aunt for about a year when I was 17. I was going through the hardest battle I have faced in my entire life even until now. I realize now that it was divine intervention that I wound up with her. As I lived there and watch her, I was taught so much. I realized that even though her cheery disposition made it seem as though she never had hard times, in reality, she endured more than her fair share. However, her faith gave her something to be joyful about no matter what storm was raging in her life.
Early every morning , as I laid sleepless in my bed, I would hear her saying her prayers. Sometimes they were soft and meek and others they were loud, sorrowful cries pleading for God's intervention in painful situations in her life. Afterwards, she would offer praise and thanksgiving not only for the blessings but also for the trials. When she finished she would always sit quietly at the kitchen table and read her Bible as she drank her coffee. It amazed me. It still does, really.
Even to this day she probably has no idea what an impact she had on my life. I don't think she was really even trying to. She was simply living her life devoted to Christ as she had always done. Her faith, trust, and sheer joy made all the difference in my young life. She just let the joy and the light of Christ shine through her in a way that caused me to need Him in me. This is the way all of us, as Christians, are suppose to be. We don't even have to put any effort in to winning people for Christ. If we simply walk around with the joy of our salvation, and the faith that He has won all our battles for us, people will see that and desire it for themselves.
Joy unspeakable! Be ever joyful! No matter what you're facing. Rejoice in the Lord always! He is good and will do good things for you and through you if you let Him!
