Throw Off Your Old Sinful Nature

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. (Ephesians 4:21, 22 NLT)

Biblically, the word repentance  means a sincere turning away, in both the mind and heart , from self to God. This is what God requires us to do when we learn of Christ and who He is and what He has done for us.

I think one of the biggest mistakes or misunderstandings we Christians have is that we believe that God will miraculously take our sins and desire a away from us when we except Jesus as our Lord and savior! But this us a deception! God will help us. He will always give us a way out of our temptations but we must to choose to take the out. We must turn away from the sin. Salvation is a choice. It is a choice we must make consciously every day.

It is not easy but nothing worthwhile
ever is. We know who Christ is. We know we must make a choice between Him and "self". And the way we do that is sacrificing the desires of our sinful flesh. The best part of this is when we do, we find a freedom that we had no idea was even possible! Another awesome thing about true repentance is that when we refuse the temptations, the tempt-er has to flee from us for a season. That means He'll be back. However, if you spend that season building up your spirit with the Word of God, you will be even stronger and able to resist him that much quicker next time! The out God provides will seem so much sweeter than the temptation!

God is a good God! He is pure and holy! And He has given us the immeasurable gift of Grace! We simply have to choose it!
