So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness, and in a humble (gentle, modest) spirit receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted [in your hearts] contains the power to save your souls. (James 1:21 AMP)
There is a difference between your soul and spirit. Some people don't realize this. When the Bible talks about your Spirit it is referring to what was filled with Jesus and the Holy Spirit when you accepted Christ and when you received the power (in filling) of the Holy Spirit. It is the part of you that is born again. When the bible talks about your heart or your soul it is referring to you mind, will, and emotions. Your flesh is another term for it. Jesus saves your Spirit when you are born again. It's the Word of God that will save your soul if you will let it. The only way to change your soul is the Word of God. It has to be implanted and rooted. Then your harvest, the cleansing of your soul, will come.
Everyone gets tempted and tried in the area of the soul. It's where the devil can find the quickest access. When there is an open door he will slither in. When I say open door, I'm referring to a foot hole, an access point. Anger, unforgiveness, fear, jealousy, letting something demonic feed into you (scary movies, vulgar shows, music uplifting the devil), putting more world in you than Christ in you.
Everyone gets tempted. Never be confused though about who is doing the tempting.
Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil and He Himself tempts no one. (James 1:13 AMP)
But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions). (James 1:14 AMP)
Even Jesus was tempted.
Next Jesus was taken into the wild by the Spirit for the Test. The Devil was ready to give it. Jesus prepared for the Test by fasting forty days and forty nights. (Matthew 4:1-3)
He prepared for the tests. He fasted. He also combated the tests with the Word of God. Every temptation he quoted back scripture. The Devil kept going though. He always does. On the third time Jesus rebuked him, quoted scripture, and he left.
The Test was over. The Devil left. And in his place, angels! Angels came and took care of Jesus’ needs. (Matthew 4:11)
It was over. Angels came and took care of Jesus' needs.
Jesus saves your Spirit but it's the written Word of God that will save your soul. Your mind, will, and emotions. They need work. They need saving. They need discipline. They need the Word.
If you have never thought about the soul vs your spirit I encourage you to study this in the Word of God. If you struggle in this area I would love to minister with you! You can always email me at email@example.com.
