I. John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
Life is all about choices. Everyday we are faced with hundreds of them. What to wear? What to eat? Where to go? But the most important choice is who to love. I'm not talking about who to love as our mate or friend or family member. I'm talking about choosing between God and the world. Will we love God or will we love the world? Will we live for God or will we live for the world?
I.John 2:15 tells us that if we make the choice to love the world that the love of our Father is not in us. To me this is crystal clear. There is NO WAY we can say that we love our Father but live a life that is disobedient to His word. We can not serve two masters. (Matt. 6:24) We can not as the old saying goes "straddle the fence". The choice to love the world will lead us into dangerous territory. As we see in verse 16, the world is full of lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life. None of these is of The Father. Sadly, many of us will say that we love the Father but live like we love the world.
The truth is to choose the world may be the easy way. Don't we all just really want to fit in? Be like everyone else so they like us and don't think us strange. Isn't it easier to just go along with the crowd than to stand up and say NO that is not pleasing to God. To God there is no big or little sin. Sin is sin.
It's amazing to me the things that people who say they love The Father will tolerate or think nothing of. For example, everyday I hear stories about or see for myself married people flirting with single or married people or single people flirting with someone else husband or wife. Besides that fact that this is disrespectful to the person's spouse, it is disrespectful and disobedient to The Word of God. AND it can lead to destruction of many lives. The list could go on and on with things that we tolerate just to make life easy.
Now, am I saying that we should all be perfect??? No!! There has only ever been one perfect man and that is Jesus. Each of us will sin everyday. What I'm talking about is saying we love The Father but living in darkness. Whether we like it or not if we have ever told anyone that we are a Christian they are watching us. Think about it. They are watching to see if our life reflects what we have spoken out of our mouth.
So, today let me encourage anyone who may have been loving the world a little to much lately. It's not to late to change your choice and love God. Pastor Ant always says "no mater how fast or far you think you have run from God, if you stop and turn around He is right there."
