Seed, Time, and Harvest

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. (Galatians 6:7, 8 NLT)

This was the verse of the day today on the You version bible app. This verse is one of those that doesn't really need much elaboration because it really speaks for itself. However, that has never stopped me before so here we go.

This is a lesson that I repeatedly teach to my kids and try to live by myself. I feel this is a key principle in being a Christian. When you live your life with this verse dictating your actions you are living for Jesus and letting His light shine through you!

Some times it can seem like you have planted so many good seeds but the harvest is taking so long to come! This happens a lot. That's why patience is a virtue.

When our church family's spiritual leader and patriarch, Bill Britt, takes up the offering on Sunday mornings he often speaks of this principle. "Seed, time, and harvest" But he  always emphasizes the word time. It's important for us to understand that it takes time before we can harvest the fruit of the good seeds we plant. If we do good deeds and expect immediate return then we will be disappointed.

The best way to approach this is live everyday doing good things in the name of Jesus. But don't do it expecting a return. If you ask me doing good things for others is reward enough in itself. The return blessings will come, but how much sweeter will they be when you're not sitting there waiting  on and expecting them?!

Our God is a just and faithful God. He will always see your good deeds and reward them justly. Always do good things to glorify God and further his kingdom and your harvest will always be more bountiful and wonderful than you can imagine!

Thank you for reading my devotion! I hope it blessed you in some way! If you would like to contact me for prayer, discussion, or support please feel free to email me at chassidyhester@gmail.com

  1. Thank you Chassidy. You reap what you sow and when the harvest comes in it is beautiful. You were precious to write about my sweet daddy; Bill Britt. He is still in the hospital but the heart doctor was very encouraging yesterday. We are thanking God for his complete healing and we believe God this will never come upon him the 2nd time in Jesus name. Please continue to PRAISE! Pamela Britt Malone
