“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:18, 19 NIV)
The holidays are over and a new year is quickly approaching! To me, a new year means a new beginning! A fresh start! A re-do from last year!!!
This whole year, I feel like I have been slacking in every area if my life!!! I've slacked in my walk with God and as a wife! I've let my weight get out of hand and let my house stay in a mess!! These things are totally out of my character and the only reason I can come up with as to why is simply: LAZINESS!!! Yes, as bad as I hate to admit it, I've let a spirit of laziness come in and take over!!!
Proverbs chapter 10 talks about laziness and how dangerous it can be!! I don't think I have reached that point yet, but I recognize that it's here and that it's time to change before it gets worse!!!
Throughout the year, I have felt like I have lost my hunger for more of God! I have gotten complacent and satisfied!! This happened because I haven't spent the time I needed in prayer and fasting and in the Word!! Now that I have noticed it, I can feel my spirit literally starving!!! Pastor Ant says we should treat God's word like food! We should indulge in it as often as we indulge in spiritual food! The Bible shouldn't be treated like a dessert and only eaten every once in a while!!! This spiritual anorexia has been the cause of all of my slacking/laziness this year!!
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:12, 13 NIV)
My sister Jessi takes house work to a whole new level!!! She talks about it in a way that most wouldn't! She is a newly wed and a new mommy to an 8 year old little boy all at the same time! She has new duties that she has never had before!! She has approached them as a way of worship to Jesus!! She knows that cleaning commodes and picking up after two boys can egg old and redundant, but it is her job as a wife and a mother to do those things!! To me, she is the perfect example of a Proverbs 31 wife!!
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” (Proverbs 31:10-12, 15, 17, 23, 25-29 NIV)
This is something I have strived to be in the past, but have let go this year because of who knows why!!! But THANK GOD for new beginnings!!!!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
So starting this new year, I plan to be a new girl!!! I am going to fulfill my wifely duties and honor God by keeping my house nice and tidy, I am going to treat my body as a temple of God by eating better and exercising more often and I am going to seek God's face like never before!!! I hope everyone has an amazing 2014!!!
