Oh, Give Thanks!!

Psalm 106:1 Praise the Lord!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.

The first American Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 to commemorate the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony after a very harsh winter. For many years Thanksgiving was a holiday that was observed by the states. During the Civil War, President Lincoln gave his Thanksgiving Proclamation declaring the last Thursday in November a day of thanks.

In 1939-1941 President Roosevelt wanted to lengthen the Christmas shopping season, so he proclaimed the 3rd Thursday of November Thanksgiving. In 1941 Congress passed a Resolution decreeing that Thanksgiving should be on the 4th Thursday of November. That is where it remains today.

But the fact is that every day should be Thanksgiving. Every day we should thank God for all the blessings we have. I know that sometimes we don't feel very thankful. Or is that just me??

We should thank Him for His goodness, for His grace, for His mercy and most of all for His Son!!

Our lives are not perfect. We have struggles and hardship. But The Word of God tells us to "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deu. 31:6) He is there through it all!!! Right beside us. For that reason alone, everyday should be a day of Thanksgiving.
