“Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the first fruits of all your increase;”
What do your possessions reveal about you? More importantly, what do your possessions reveal about your relationship with God? Do your possessions honor Him? My guess would be that we all probably have something worthy of the trash can. We want to convince ourselves that some of our possessions are not that bad. I hear people talking all the time about not being able to sleep because they have watched a horror movie. That horror movie is NOT honoring God. He does not give us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear comes from Satan.
We should honor God with our possessions. God blesses us with jobs (income), food, shelter, clothing, technology, etc. Those things can be used to honor Him. Use your job and income to ministering tools. Talk to fellow workers about Christ. Honor God with your tithes and offerings, with the FIRST fruits of your increase. If you have plenty of food, share with someone that doesn’t. Use your home as a place to teach your children about the love of Christ or hold Bible study. Honor God with your clothing. As Christians, we should not own shirts that have filthy pictures or words on them. If you have them, throw them away. Ladies, we should be modest in what we choose to wear. Low cut shirts and short shorts/skirts are becoming the norm.
One of the biggest areas of concern when it comes to honoring God with our possessions in today’s world is technology. What do you do with your computer, Internet, and cell phone? Ninety percent of Internet searches are for pornography. That is NOT honoring God! There are people bullied on social networking site every day. Sexting is common among middle and high school students. I do not think all technology is bad. This website is a perfect example of using your possessions to honor God. I love that sermons from Awakening Life Church came be viewed all over the world at the click of a button because of technology.
Everything on Earth was given to us by God. Let us use what He has given us to Honor Him.
