1. Peter 4:8 - And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.
Did you hear what ______ did? You will NEVER believe what I heard about ______! Have you ever said these words? I have. To be honest often times without any knowledge of if what came after them was true or false. This really makes me sad!!
This week I was told some things about a person I love very much. Immediately 1. Peter 4:8 came to mind. Even though these things hurt me to hear, I'm sure it hurts the person being talked about even more. I have no real knowledge of whether the things are true or not. AND it really doesn't matter. Jesus commands us in John 15:17 to love one another. Not just to love one another but to love as HE has loved us!! WOW!! If we are truly walking in love we will protect others from gossip. If we are truly walking by Jesus' command, when someone starts to gossip to us we will shut them down immediately! Telling them we don't want to listen to what they are saying.
None of us are perfect! We have all done and said things that we shouldn't have. As believers, we should be different from people of the world. But, sadly, often we are not. There have even been times I felt like people were trying to gossip by disguising it as a prayer request. We ARE to pray for one another. We don't always need to know the details. God knows them!!!
There may be issues and situations in our and others lives that must be addressed. Jesus tells us how in Matt. 18:15-17. But above everything we are to LOVE. And as Peter reminds us love will cover a multitude of sins.
This post was written from the heart of Beth Reed. My prayer this week is that each of us will live by the reminder from Peter. That we will let love cover a multitude of sins.
I hope this has been of some encouragement to you. I would love to hear your comments.
