We can't choose the path emotions lead us down

Being emotional is something I struggle at. I never really remember being an emotional person, until I had my baby Shepherd. Now, I am emotional. Maybe hormonal is a better word to use here :) Anyway I have some emotions going on! I cry when I watch X Factor. I cry when I watch So You Think You Can Dance. I cry when I watch America's Got Talent. Never fails. Anytime someone makes it through the auditions I tear up and literaly cry. I am also so sensitive to emotions. If someone is telling me something and even just tears up the slightest bit, I cry.

It's easy to make decisions based off of what we feel and think. When we are moved emotional by something it is easy to be motivated one way or the other. Also if we are emotional about something it is easy to be be persuaded that we are making the right decision or being lead down the right path. We have to learn to trust something much more stable than any emotion. God's word.

Hebrews 4:12 God’s Word is sharper than any two-edged sword, dividing soul and spirit and judging the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God's Word should be what leads us, guides us, and ultimately the final say so. His Word keeps our thoughts and emotions in check.

If you are an emotionaly lead person, you can over come that through Jesus! Don't let your emotions own you, you own them. Start today! Take a "personal inventory" and see if you are letting emotional thinking lead you instead of the God's Word. If you are, identify what is triggering these emotional thoughts. Once you realize the root of what's going on you can ak God to help you overcome specific areas. Then start practicing trusting God and keeping your thoughts focused on Him.

In Colossians 3 God tells us to keep our thoughts focused on Him and not of wordly things. Make an effort, starting today, to keep your thoughts and emotions focused on God. And most of all to be lead only by Him and His Words.

  1. I totally agree! So many times in my life I immediately get all involved in my emotions and literally forget for a moment about God :( My mind starts turning and i start thinking thoughts of ... What am I going to do? How am I going to make it? I get get stressed, in a panic and emotionally drained. Everytime this happens I never see it happen !!! After a little while I remember that it is only the tricks of the devil to distract me. I turn it around , praise my way through to victory and remember MY God is EL SHADDAI!!! My provider and my provision!!! Now that will make you shout :)

  2. Emotions come from the soul, and the soul is torn between flesh and spirit. When the soul and the flesh line up we get emotional about the world. However, when the soul and the spirit line up, God can use our emotion to motivate us for His purpose and His Kingdom. Think about it, we can cry because our dog died or we can weep for the lost.
