Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
I love this story in the bible about Martha, Mary and Jesus! Martha is clearly running around the house trying to get everything perfect because after all Jesus is there! And Martha is clearly upset with Mary because she isn't helping her at all. Mary is just sitting at Jesus’ feet. So Martha decides she is going to complain to Jesus about Mary. But Jesus answered her and told her she was to anxious and troubled about unnecessary things! He also points out that Mary has chosen the good portion and it will not be taken away from her!
Are you a Martha? Are you distracted by this busy fast paced day and age ? I find my own self guilty of this often. My days start early and end late. As soon as my feet hit the floor most days I am going nonstop! A lot of days I don’t even allow myself time to eat. I am sure a lot of your days are just like this also! I stay so distracted trying to keep up that sometimes my prayer time and bible studying time gets pushed to late at night when I am so tired and exhausted it is really hard to focus and stay awake!
We need to realize that this is the devils plan to keep us distracted from God! The devil doesn't want us to make time to read the bible or pray! So let’s make a point from today on to not be distracted from this busy life, but to be focused on God! When we focus on God everything will fall right into place! So let’s all be like Mary and stay at the feet of Jesus!
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.
