Are You Committed?

If we say we are going to do something, then we need to do it.-If we say we are Christians, then we need to live it.

How can we show our commitment to God?

•Reading the Word.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105)
The best way to get closer to God is by reading his Word. In Psalms it tells us that God's word will actually guide us through life and that his Word is the light to guide us. So if you're not in the word, you don't have a light to guide you. You are walking through life blindly. Think about it, how are we going to know how to get through situations in life if we don't know how God wants us to handle it? We can only know this if we are in His Word.

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4 NIV)

This verse tells us that basically we can not live unless we have the Word of God in us. We can't live on food alone, we have to read the bible. Just like food is nourishment to us, the Bible is also.

•Putting your faith in Him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes: fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8 NIV)

Putting your faith in God goes hand in hand with trusting Him. Sometimes it's hard because we have been in situations where someone has hurt us. Maybe someone has betrayed you and you have a hard time trusting. I know because of the situations I've went through in my life, I have had such a hard time trusting people. But I also know when I actually gave everything I had to God, all my faith, I realized how unlike those people who hurt me, He was. I realized how even when I'm not faithful to Him, He is SO faithful to me. That's why it is so worth it to give everything you have to Him, because even when you turn away, He's still there. That's the thing that amazes me the most about God. He's faithful even when I am not.

•By praying.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6 NIV)

When we pray, we are supposed to pray in faith. Don't do the "woe is me" prayers. I used to be the world's worst at this. "Well God, I just hope you give me that job. If you don't, I don't know what I'm going to do." Instead, we should pray, "God, if it is in your will for me to have this job, then I pray it comes through. If not, I praise You that You have such a better plan for me, because I know your will is perfect! Do you see the difference in this? The first one says, " I have no faith in You." The second one says, "I have nothing but faith in you."

•By making Disciples
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:19 NIV)

We, as disciples are supposed to make other disciples. Jesus spent most of his time with 12 men. He taught those men how to live a Godly life. Those 12 men were disciples who were supposed to make other disciples. The best way to make diciples is to lead by example. Yes, I promise you we will mess up. We are by no means perfect, but that is why Jesus, who had no sin, took our sin upon him and died so we could live. I know that is someone worth staying commited to. Even when you fail, He will pick you up.

  1. Ashley, your commitment to Christ is AWESOME!!! We have had so much going on at our little church this week. Parking cars at the fair and a wedding to prepare for!!! I was so proud of everyone by putting in very long hours this week and working so hard for the Lord! The Bible says to GO into the world and I feel we have rolled up our selves; lead by example and did it!!!!! Being committed to Jesus is not easy sometimes but we are in the midnight hour! Jesus is coming!!!!! We need to ALL remember this devotional!!!!! You can't lead by example if your not in the WORD OF GOD!!!!! How will we ever know how to put our faith in him, pray or make disciples if we never open our bibles and read????? VERY IMPORTANT indeed!!!!!!!!
