"He answered them, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment." Luke 16; 27-28
What does a man in hell have that every Christian needs?
The initial response of most to that question would be, nothing. However, the reality is that the man in hell exhibited a characteristic that every Christian should have. He was mission minded. He had a sense of urgency and desperation to make sure his brothers were warned about the eternal consequences of rejecting Jesus.
The man begged that Lazarus be sent. He did not say, "If you get an extra few minutes could you work it into your schedule to talk to my family about salvation." He did not say, "The next time you run into my family at the grocery store could you mention my situation." He begged which shows us his desperation. Asking Lazarus to be sent shows his urgency. Translated into today's terminology that verse would read, "Please, please, please, go right now!" Do not wait until it is too late."
We as Christians should have the same mentality as the man in hell. Believing the Bible and knowing the consequences for people who are lost, why are we casually waiting for an opportunity to share Christ? Sharing Christ with others should not be worked into our busy schedule. Our schedule should be designed around sharing Christ. There are lost people in hell right now that if given the chance to speak to us would beg us to share the message of salvation with others and to do so with extreme urgency. Therefore, be mission minded. Clear your schedule. Make time to share the love of Jesus Christ with someone today. Taking the time to do this may not be easy, but it will be worth it!
