Can you hear ME now??

John 10:27 The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. (amp)

These words of Jesus tell us that if we are His sheep we are listening to His voice and that we follow Him. But, I wonder, how often have I heard Him and ignored what He was telling me? Have I been to busy? Have I been too afraid? Have I heard Him but was so far from Him that I did not recognize it was Him?

God will speak to us in different ways at different times. The main way He speaks to us is through His written word. He will never tell us something that goes against what is written in the Bible.

Here’s what 2 Tim. 3:16-17 tells us about the written word of God.

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof  and  conviction of sin, for correction of error  and  discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),  So that the man of God may be complete  and  proficient, well fitted  and  thoroughly equipped for every good work. (amp)

If we are not rooted in The Word of God we will not know His voice.

He will also speak to us through other people, our circumstances and as we read in the story of Elijah (1 Kings 19:11-13) that “still small voice”.

About 2 ½ years ago the Lord spoke to me in a way that I could have no doubt it was Him. I had been having some conversations with an acquaintance about a difficult time they were going through. I had told them I was praying for them and I was. But then one day while sitting at my desk at work The Lord told me to get up, go into the restroom, kneel and pray for him. Let me just say it was anything but still and small!! It was not an audible voice but it was clear and strong!! I knew that it was The Father. I did not hesitate. He was making it very clear!!! Some time went by and I became very close to this person and I was able to share with them what had happened that day. Now, it would be nice to know just what was happening in his life at the very moment I was on my knees in prayer. But what matters most is that I listened and did not ignore what my Father was asking me to do.

When I think back on this day it occurs to me that we both should be so very honored and grateful to our Heavenly Father. He had a child in need of prayer and because He loves him so much He looked for someone who was willing. On the other side, He had a child who was not giving Him her best. So, He “yanked” her up “interrupted” her day and gave her the privilege of being used by Him. I am for certain that on that day at that time it was ALL of HIM and NONE of me!!!

To some people this story may not sound all that amazing. But, to me it was a life changing moment!!! It put me on a path to a much closer relationship then I ever had with Him.

My prayer this week is that each of us will listen to the voice of our Father. I pray that we will not ignore Him and that we will be ready and willing to do as He instructs us.

  1. Really good Beth!!!! When the Lord tells us to get up and pray we need to JUST DO IT!!!!! Mandy times it is to save someone's life and it your case that was why the Lord had you to get out of your comfort zone and go pray!!! Many times the Lord will wake me up to get up and pray in the spirit! Sometimes I know who I am praying for and sometimes I don't ., it does not matter I am obedient !!!! Not a saint, just obeying Gods command! This request from God changed your life!!!!! HE asked you to do it and you obeyed and it saved a mans life!!!!!! Awesome!!!! What if you were not willing ...... Prayer ..... Obey God!!!!
