So, I pulled out my favorite daily devotional "Streams In The Desert". I went to the subject index and began to read the days devoted to the subject of prayer. This was just what I was in need of!! Reminders of what The Word of God tells us about prayer.
In the 24th verse of Mark 11 Jesus says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. “ (NIV)
Jesus said “BELIEVE”!! It’s in red people!!!! But, do I???? Do you???? Our Father desires for us to believe His word without other evidence. Believe because He is not a man that He should lie. (Num. 23:19) Since the time of creation, He has never broken His Word to any of His children. He wants to answer our prayers. He has promised to answer our prayers. However, He is not at our beck and call to answer our request when we think He should. Our prayers must be in His will, based on a promise He has made, be in His time and HE must be glorified.
Matt. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
John 14:13-14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.
Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.
Psalms 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Now, for me the hardest part is the waiting!! The Father has His own “timeline” for when we will see our prayers answered here on earth. VERY often my time and His time are NOT the same!! And, to be honest there are times when I feel like if one more person talks to me about His will, His plan, His time, or His promises I think I might just scream!!!!!!
But, sometimes we must wait. When we must, we should wait in prayer, wait in faith and wait in patience. Knowing that our Father loves us and longs to be good to us!! Again, this is not always an easy thing to do. However, when we wait on Him, the answer will be better then we could have ever imagined.!!! And as my sweet cousin Sharon once told me "God will not give you crumbs"!!!
God never is late;
Thy budding plans are in Thy Father's holding,
And only wait His grand divine unfolding.
Then wait, wait,
Trust, hopefully trust,That God will adjust
Thy tangled life; and from its dark concealings,
Will bring His will, in all its bright revealings.
Then trust, trust,
Rest, peacefully restOn thy Savior’s breast;
Breathe in His ear thy sacred high ambition,
And He will bring it forth in blest fruition.
Then rest, rest,
Peacefully rest! --Mercy A. Gladwin
This post was written from the prayerfully waiting heart of Beth Reed. My prayer this week is that each of us will rest in the fact that our Father will answer. And that we will peacefully rest in Him.
